I never managed to get in enough fresh daily vegetables – but now I do. And it’s all due to juicing!

What’s more, I really look forward to my daily juice – even though it contains some vegetables I would never normally eat.

Getting Your Daily Vegetables – Start Simply

Don’t go crazy when making your first juices. You don’t need a ton of different vegetables – 2 or even 3 different veggies are plenty. Add one piece of fruit for sweetness and extra flavour if you wish. That’s it!

Savor your juice, and drink it slowly. Take time to enjoy it, and taste everything in it. Leave the juice briefly in your mouth so that it can blend with your saliva, beginning the digestion process.

If you don’t like a particular vegetable, but you know you should be eating it, add just a small amount into your juice or smoothie. For example, I hate celery. If it’s added to a food, I can taste it immediately, and it puts me off the meal. But I add it to my smoothies and don’t taste it at all, because I always include cucumber, lemon juice and a little fruit.

Drink your juice as soon after you make it as possible. In fact, you should drink it immediately after it is made.

Make sure to remove large pits from items such as peaches and avocados before you juice them – they could damage your juicer.

You can get the entire family involved in juicing because it is fun and easy. For example, a child can wash the produce as an adult works on chopping it.

If you wish to lose weight, include as many “negative calorie” foods in your juicing as possible. These include cabbage, kale, broccoli, and various herbs. You can also use fruits that are rich in fiber – but in small quantities.

Many children neglect to eat their vegetables. You can give them their favorite fruit juices spiked with vegetable juice – they don’t need to know what you are doing!

Be aware that some juices can stain or colour your teeth – beets and carrots for example. It’s not a problem, just remember to brush your teeth as soon as possible after drinking.
